Hys Steak House is probably the most popular place among locals to go to for steak on the island. Hy's has a distinct look and feel to it in that the walls have wood paneling, the seats are big and deep and there's books everywhere.
You feel as though you are in a library and it reminds me of a place on the mainland such as Chicago or New York and would never in a million years think that there's palm trees outside.
All in all it's good a good reputation that is pretty consistent and you get what you expect to pay for there: huge steaks and an accompaniment of various comfort food sides such as mashed potatoes and cheese bread.
They also have fresh seafood and a pretty extensive dessert selection. View the menu here. The waiters wear tuxedos and the service is excellent. They have won many awards for the food and service here.
People generally dress up when they come here and it is definitely a good choice if it's a special occassion.
Expect to spend $45-55 for steak here, $35 for seafood, $6-10 for sides and $10 ish for salads. If choosing caviar and wine then the bill goes up significantly.
It costs $5 to valet park and the hours are Monday-Friday 6-9:30 pm and Saturday and Sunday from 5:30-9:30 pm. They are located inside of the Waikiki Park Heights Hotel not too far from The Hyatt Regency at 2440 Kuhio Ave., Ste A, Honolulu, HI 96815.
