Overall Pros and Cons

marriott ko olina beach club exterior

Pros:

Fabulous sunsets- the west side location is perfect for watching

Quiet and away from the hustle/bustle, crowds and noise of Waikiki

Feels like a true resort-lots of acreage to spread out, no high rises towering over one another

Ko Olina is a secure, safe area ideal for walking and jogging

IDEAL FOR FAMILIES-full kitchens, in-suite laundry, kids' activities

Golf course and club right there

Marina right there for water enthusiasts-go on a snorkel/dolphin cruise or a sunset cruise.

The west side has the best and most varied scuba diving on the island

Swimming Lagoons in the Ko Olina area-explore multiple saltwater lagoons enclosed by lava rocks that are very safe for swimming. There are also bathroom and shower facilities.

Paradise Cove luau is located in the Ko Olina complex. It's my favorite one on Oahu taking place on the ocean at sunset.

marriott ko olina beach club grounds

Cons:

Remote-this could be a plus or a minus depending on your temperament and what you're in the mood for. You don't have a main drag like in Waikiki with lots of stores, shopping and nightlife right outside your door.

For many people this is a plus. Waikiki is about 35-40 minutes away WITHOUT traffic which is almost never quite honestly.

You need a car if you plan to explore the island, buy groceries, etc. Many activities will pick you up but expect a surcharge in some cases.

The west side is not the "cherriest" of neighborhoods but the hotel itself is located at the gateway of the west side inside of the gated and guarded Ko Olina hotel, resort and golf complex.

I don't recommend random exploring and hanging out over there but I think the drive to Yokohama beach at the end of the road is very nice and okay and you can do a hike to Kaena Point.
