Sony Open Hawaii Oahu Events January

Sony Open-1/9/17-1/15/17 at the Waialae Country Club near Waikiki. Largest charity event in Hawaii attracting 144 of the world's greatest golf professionals. It has a $6,000,000 purse with the champion receiving $1,080,000.

Martin Luther King Jr parade in Honolulu Oahu Events January

5th Annual Oahu Fringe Festival, Friday, 1/13/17-Sunday, 1/15/17, performing arts focused on different mediums such as theater, dance, puppetry, spoken word, etc. with 22 performers at 4 venues in the Chinatown area, various times depending on the show but it's primarily in the evening. The venues are the Arts at Mark's Garage, Next Door, Studio 114 & Ong King Arts Centre. More info


Martin Luther King Parade, Monday, 1/16/17, 9:00 am, starts at Magic Island in Ala Moana Park, goes through Waikiki along Kalakaua Ave and ends at Kapiolani park. Unity Rally afterwards at the Kapiolani Park bandstand. Events beginning on Friday, 1/13/17. More info here


Pacific Islands Arts Festival, Saturday, 1/21/17 & Sunday, 1/22/17, 9:00 am-4:00 pm, Kapiolani Park, free w/ free & metered parking in and around the park. Arts & crafts, demonstrations, make & takes, food, music & a Chinese lion dance celebrating the Chinese New Years events on Sunday. More info


Chinese New Year-"Night in Chinatown" Festival & Parade, Saturday, 1/21/17, 10:00 am-10:00 pm, Chinatown area on Maunakea & Smith streets. 2 day festival done block party style with the parade on Saturday at 3:30 pm. The new Year of the Rooster will include a 150' dancing lion, firecrackers, arts & crafts, food & multiple stages w/ entertainers including Kung Fu martial artists & festival queens. Over 15,000 people are expected to attend.

HawaiiSlam's First Thursdays Slam Poetry Competition, Thursday, 1/5/17, 8:30-11:30pm, $3 before 8:30, $5 after. $100 prize to the winner. Eat The Street January events Honolulu

Eat the Street, the last Friday of the month on 1/27/17, 4:00-10:00 pm, 1011 Ala Moana (old Fisherman's Wharf location); more info here.

There is also a limited Daily Street Grindz w/ about 5-7 food trucks during the day & evening. It's great to run by there & get something to eat for lunch. Take cash. Check the Facebook page to see who's there that day. Kau Kau Grill has THE best ribs-the meat just falls off the bone. Lots of sweet sauce & it's super juicy. I'm from Chicago so I know my ribs :)

Art on the Zoo Fence-Artists hang their works on the wall fence of the Honolulu Zoo on Monsarrat Ave.Happens on Saturdays and Sundays from 9:00am-4:00pm. More info here

Mai Tai Bar-Live local music most weekends at Ala Moana Shopping Center, 4th fl with acts performing in their open lanai style bar. Very popular Pau Hana style bar with locals, tourists & military alike.

Free Hawaiian cultural activities at the Royal Hawaiian Center most days such as hula, ukulele and lei making. See website for schedule details


Hula at Kuhio Beach Park daily at 6:30 pm during the spring & summer; 6:00 pm in the winter. If the weather is bad it will not be held. Get there early to get a seat.
