Outrigger Hotels in Hawaii

Outrigger hotels in Hawaii are a good value for the dollar offering excellent locations, cheaper prices and high quality, comfortable accomodations for the budget-minded traveler. 3 of the Outrigger Hotels in Hawaii that

I recommend are here on Oahu in Waikiki and the other hotel is in Kona. For Oahu they are the Outrigger Reef on the Beach, Outrigger Waikiki on the Beach and The Ala Moana Hotel.

Outrigger Reef on the Beach

TIP: Best value for the money for a direct oceanfront hotel in Waikiki I think.

outrigger reef waikiki

639 rooms spread over 3 towers on 18 floors. It has basic ammenities such as a spa, 24 hour fitness center, business center, meeting rooms, high speed internet access, room service, a pool/whirlpool, cultural activities, cable tv, wedding services and a coffee/tea maker in the rooms.

Located toward the more western edge of Waikiki about 8.5 miles from the airport the beaches are less crowded and there is a little more peace and quiet.

Outrigger Hotels in Hawaii Overall Review of This Hotel...

Pros:

-From an affordability standpoint this is a good (not great). Very good deal for the money. It's directly oceanfront and conveniently located to activities and attractions (about 5-10 minutes of walking to the main drag/strip in Waikiki).

-Recent renovations means that the rooms are nice and above average in general depending on the amount of view you decide to pay for. This means that the bathrooms are nice, not old and grungy and you have amenities and a general quality that is good. You won't be asking yourself "why did I book this hole". It's not the Lexus or Mercedes of hotels but it's a good mid-priced sedan/SUV if you will. Gets you where you want to go comfortably and safely.

- Excellent location at the end of Waikiki beach. The beaches are far less crowded here and it's a little quieter yet you are still close to all of the action. It's side street location also contributes to the quieter atmosphere of this nook of Waikiki.

-Good value restaurants. Excellent views and very good service at the Ocean House restaurant. I like their breakfast and it's not expensive. More romantic at nice with candles on the table and the menu features seafood and prime rib. Open air, beachfront setting. The Shore Bird is great for families as they have an all you can eat salad bar and breakfast buffet for $13.95. All of the major chains such as Denny's, Roy's and Hard Rock Cafe are within a couple of blocks.

-Free direct calls throughout Hawaii, to the US mainland and Canada.

-Good service from the hotel staff.

outrigger reef waikiki pool

Cons:

-Pool is between buildings which means sunshine hours are limited and it doesn't sit directly on the ocean. It's on the smaller side but you are right on the beach so go there. The pool is well-maintained and serviced.
-Fitness center is very, very basic .

Outrigger Hotels in Hawaii Overall Review of This Hotel...

Pros:

-LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION. If you like to be in the heart of it all with shopping, restaurants and nightlife outside your front door and the beach outside your back then this is a good buy.

-Decent value for the money but you're paying for the direct oceanfront location in the heart of everything mostly. No wow factor to the hotel. I'd say it's average to nice with basic amenities but the location...

-Amazing views possible if you decide to pay for ocean view rooms

-Hula Grill for breakfast-the views are great looking out onto the ocean and the food is good.

-The spa and the treadmills at the fitness center look directly out onto the ocean with floor to ceiling windows.

-Sit down guest registration. No need to stand after a long day of travel.

outrigger waikiki on the beach spa

Cons:

-Due to renovations the pool is closed but you are allowed to use the pool at the Holiday Inn Waikiki Beachcomber Resort across the street or the pool at the Outrigger Reef on the Beach (too far I think). You've got the best pool available right out back: the beach!

-Location. What can be a plus in one person's book can be a minus in somebody else's. There's a flip side to a central location in the heart of Waikiki=noise. Expect crowds, noise, street performers, live bands playing at Duke's restaurant into the later hours of the evening...you get my drift.

-Pricier valet parking. Average valet parking rates run $25-35 with $35 being the average. Again, probably due to the location. If you don't mind walking and only need to stash the car here and there go down to the Honolulu Zoo a few blocks away and pay $1/hour. You might even find free parking on the backside of the zoo on Monserrat Avenue. If you want to rent a car I don't think you need one for more than a couple of days anyway.
